Plaza de España

This awesome square was the most grandiose of the buildings completed for the Iberoamerican Expo held in 1929. It is conceived as a big hug (to America) of 170-meter diameter. it's impressive with its fountains, mini-canals and Venetian-style bridges. There you'll find 49 banks of tiles showing maps and historical scenes from each Spanish province. Along the perimeter of the 'plaza', there is a canal you can go through by a row boat.

It is located on one side of the María Luisa Park, very close to the Prado de San Sebastián Gardens.

Metro: Stops Prado de San Sebastián or San Bernardo. / Bus: 34, A6, A7,C1 y C2.

Our tip

You need at least 40 minutes to enjoy this wonderful square that has been rated by TripAdvisor users as the most spectacular monument in Europe and the Second in the world and has served as the setting for films such as Star Wars and Lawrence of Arabia. Explore its 49 tile banks is an interesting geography and history lesson for which very few have enough time, but at least you can take a good selfie on the bank of the province that interests you the most. Banks / provinces are alphabetically ordered.
