Mudejar route in La Axarquía

In the heart of La Axarquía, close to Torrox, there are a handful of white villages that preserve their Muslim legacy. Arenas, Árchez, Salares, Sedella and Canillas de Aceituno are the most outstanding. They constitute a 40-kilometer route dotted with minarets with brick geometries and arcades, hallmarks of Mudejar style. Your heart will be back to other times.

What It comes from the arabic word "mudayya". It's applied to the Hispano-Muslims who, after the Christian conquest, remained under the new Castilian state, conserving the Islamic religion, language and legal estatus.They created their own artistic style.There are samples of this style in various cities and regions of Spain: Seville, Madrid, Castille, Aragón... The Mudejar of Aragón was declared World Heritage.
Where is La Axarquía It is the easternmost region of the province of Malaga. It has a coastal area and an interior one. Torrox is 30 kilometers from Arenas, where this route begins.
Archez It's considered a Marinid jewel of the 13th century. The Marinids were the dynasty that came after the Almohads.
