A city of museums

You can’t turn a corner without finding a museum in Malaga: there are over 35 here. The Pompidou Centre, which is entered via a striking, giant glass cube that has become one of the emblems of the city, and the Picasso Museum are the most renowned. But there are museums dedicated to many themes, not only contemporary art: science and nature, popular customs, history, automobile, fashion, flamenco... Its museums are a good reason to visit Malaga.

Most of Malaga's museums are concentrated in its historic center. In fact, this is one of the cities with the highest density of exhibition centers in its historical area.

It would be too long to mention them all (about 40). In addition to those highlighted below, the Collection of the Russian Museum of Saint Petersburg, the Carmen Thyssen Museum, the Center for Contemporary Art (CAC) or the Interactive Museum of Music are some of the most interesting.

Picasso Museum

Here you will find 233 works, not only paintings or drawings but also sculptures and ceramics, covering eight decades (exactly from 1892 to 1972) of this great painter, who was born in Malaga and is one of the most important artists of the 20th century.

Museo de Málaga

It holds more than 15,000 references of archaeology  and a wide painting's collection of more that 2,000 pieces. Here there are, for example, pottery and woods from the Alcazaba. The location is the Aduana Palace, former Royal Tobacco Factory.

Centre Pompidou Málaga

This museum - the first foray of the Center Pompidou outside France- offers a tour of the art of the 20th and 21st centuries with selected works from the incomparable collection of this institution.

Automobile Museum

It is surprisingly fascinating even for non-petrol-heads as, alogside the vintage and modern cars (almost a hundred magnificently restored), high fashion  from de 1920s-50s is on display.
