Watchtowers

There are about 100 different watchtowers along the coast of Southern Spain. Some are of Islamic origins, others date from later Christian period. All with the purpose of looking out for invaders from the South. They have lasted centuries with remarkable strength. In Mijas you will find an interpretation center dedicated to these charismatic towers. Located in the so-called Torre Batería de La Cala.

A clue In general the towers with square bases are from Al Andalus times and those with round bases were built later.
