A day trip to Alpujarras

Families of Spanish and other Western reverts living in small white villages perched in the mountains. Also many lovers of nature, traditional villages and simple life. The fountains, the irrigation ditches, ceramics, pottery, carpets… Eight centuries of Muslim presence stay alive here.

The first villages we find if we start a route from Granada are Lanjarón and Órgiva, the largest in the region. In the latter you will find Halal restaurants and two small mosques. But in the heart of this region the most interesting and picturesque villages are Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira. This route can be done in one day by car.

There are regular bus lines (Alsa company) that connect these towns with each other and with Granada city. However, the most recommended way to visit this area is by car. From Granada, you must take the N-323 road to Lanjarón. Then continue on the C-332 road.

From Orgiva, the road that goes up to the heart of the Alpujarra is winding, with some very sharp curves. You must drive very carefully. If you tend to get dizzy, take precautions. In winter, you should be extremely cautious. Sometimes these roads are closed to traffic due to storms of heavy rain or snow.
