Mudejar routes

Aragon is home of the Mudejar, a unique style that is also a legacy of Al Andalus, and a surprising and wonderful mix of Islamic and Christian elements, a World Heritage. Palaces, churches, towers, cilings... In Aragon, up to 25 routes with more than 250 Mudejar elements could be followed. It will take years to visit them all, although only 10 monuments have been listed by the UNESCO. Below you will find the essentials.

Where

The main focuses or routes of Mudejar in Aragon are four: the cities of Teruel and Zaragoza and their respective provinces.

Teruel city

True capital of Mudejar. Its gems were the first to be listed as world heritage by Unesco: tower, roofing and dome of the Cathedral of Santa María de Mediavilla and the tower of three churches: San Pedro, El Salvador and San Martín.

Teruel province

Here the monuments are not as important as those in Teruel city. We highlight, for example, the church of Santa María la Mayor in Hijar, the tower of Asunción in Albalate or the impresive church-fortress of Santiago (Montalbán).

Zaragoza city

The Aljaferia Palace, la Seo and San Pablo church are World Heritage.

Zaragoza province

The Jalon Valley and Calatayud area concentrates a series of buildings also declared World Heritage by UNESCO; the church-fortress of Santa María in Tobed, the church of Santa Tecla in Cervera de la Cañada and the church of Santa María in Calatayud. Daroca is also an important location.
