Medina Azahara

Eight kilometres west of Cordoba stands the remnants of Medina Azahara, the magnificent palace-city built by Caliph Abd ar-Rahman III in the 10th century. Intended to accommodate a court of 12,000 people, its construction symbolized the power and independence of the Umayyad caliph. Only 70 years after it was founded, the Berbers swept it. The Rich Room offers a glimpse into its former grandeur. World Heritage Site.
