مع more than 200,000 palm trees, this ‘palmeral' is the largest in Europe. Its expansion took place during Al Andalus times, when an extensive network of irrigation channels was built—most of which still exist today. Recognized as a unique cultural landscape of exceptional value, this palm grove was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000. It stands as a living cultural legacy of Al Andalus.

أين: Elche, Elx in Valencian, is a town 25 kilometers southwest of Alicante (Alacant). The palm grove surrounds the town and extends into it. Although we refer to it as a single entity, it actually consists of a collection of separate plots or “huertos” (orchards).
They are called 'huertos' (orchards) because they were originally intended for agricultural use. Today their main function is ornamental and cultural: they’ve been transformed into gardens, even though they’ve kept their original name.
ساعات العمل Some areas of this extensive palm grove are green spaces that remain open to the public at all times, while others—such as the museum, the Municipal Park, and the Huerto del Cura—have specific opening hours.
