Alminar of San José

This is one of the oldest alminars (minarets) of al-Andalus preserved. It belonged to the Morabitos mosque (Masyid al-Murabitin), 11th c. Here we find today the church of San José. The alminar, separated from the church, was preserved but the bell tower was added. The shape of the ashlars and the horseshoe arch show the influence of the caliphal architecture. Probably it was built by Cordoban artisans.
