Alcázar

It's impossible not to see it: a massive rectangular fortress on Toledo's highest hill, dominating the horizon. Abd al-Rahman III built the original al-qasr here, though Romans had long recognized the strategic value of this site and ever since has been linked to the power. The current structure was commissioned by Emperor Charles V and has endured wars, fires, and bombings. Today, it houses the Army Museum.
